Being my first visit overseas, Disneyland was the first choice of my "must see" list and I was not disappointed.  It is on such a grand scale with so much to see and do, we spent two full days at Disneyland and the adjacent Adventure Park.   I really enjoyed the Disney parade, but be sure to get there early to ensure a good viewing point, as well as the Disney's Electrical Light Display which runs for about 30 minutes.  The best way to get around all of the rides is to get a "fastpass", where you obtain a ticket for the ride that you want and then you come back in an hour and go straight to the front of the queue, saves you having to stand in line for 40 minutes to go on one ride.  Also check out the "Who wants to be a Millionaire" studios in the "Hollywood Backlots" where you can actively participate in the show, we were not lucky enough to get selected to the "hotseat", but instead of winning one million dollars the winner gets a free trip to New York to participate in the actual show.  The trip on the "Mark Twain" was great too as along the banks of the river there was plenty of entertainment for you to view of early American life.

... and by night

Las Vegas with all its glitz and glamour was fun.  The casino's from the day of old are now just about all gone, and replaced are casino's all centering around themes.  The New York New York casino looks like a city of its own even with the statue of Liberty, and the Sphinx a taste of Egypt.  All of the casino's have so much entertainment other than gambling that there is always something to see and do.  We decided to go on a four hour tour that centred on the non gambling side of Las Vegas, which showed us the wedding chapels, museums and life how it used to be in Las Vegas with all the showgirls, and Elvis memorabilia.  Bear in mind that The Strip is 6 klms long, so make sure you are wearing comfy shoes if you want to walk it.  Also when crossing street corners the corners are completely fenced off so the only way to cross the street is throught the casino's themselves and of course there is no direct route you have to zig zag around the slot machines to find the way out, I think they are hoping that you will get lost and play the slot machines instead.
